BESE — Gimme the Word: Xicanx
In this explainer video project, I worked with the team at BESE to bring a fresh perspective to their series "Gimme the Word". The goal was to create a visually engaging piece that would explore the etymology of the emerging Xicanx identity and its roots in Chicano, Xicano, and Xicanx.
This project was a true highlight for me, allowing me to combine my love for image making, animation, and linguistics in a meaningful and impactful way.
Drawing on my passion for linguistics and etymology, I was able to bring this piece to life through engaging visuals and typographic animation.
The design team was quite busy at the time of production, so I had to work on my own with no feedback during the process.
Armed with image assets from the team to accurately depict historical elements, I had full creative control over the visual direction.
The client had already put out a few explainers, but they were unhappy with the quality and originality of the motion design. My job was to evolve a very loose visual style that was already established, into something with greater visual coherence and personality.
In solving this problem, I was also able to provide the client with a template they could use in future explainer videos, which would save them time and streamline the production process going forward.
