Promo videos

I love working on short promotional videos for smaller clients, generally friends who make music or organizations I’m a part of.

What I enjoy most about these projects is the high level of creative freedom I am generally granted while working directly with my client to suit their needs through animation and design.

This particular Sundae Sauuce promo was made in collaboration with Chris Rutledge, who contributed high quality fluid simulation for the ice cream animation.

While creating the promo for Flamingosis’ A Groovy Thing album promo I had to navigate a broad range of possible aesthetic choices, as his brand was at that time a mishmash of retro-aesthetics.

This was a challenging task, especially as the deadline was about 1 day, and I only had the time in my hours after work to create it. Besides all of this, I had to pick a song from the album and splice sections together in a manner that would suit the promo format.

To mirror his music’s mashed-up / sampled blending of eras and aesthetics I conceived a late 80’s-early 90’s color scheme and borrowed concepts from modernist 1970-80’s news broadcast station graphics in combination with a classic photo-lettering font popular in the same era.

On the motion end, I took inspiration from top down shots of synchronized swimmers in older films and movie title sequences, then applied that to his then only two established brand elements of flamingos and frisbees.
